About St Anthony’s Parish, Marsfield

About Our Parish

St Anthony’s Parish, Marsfield, has been a place of faith and community since 1942. Entrusted to the Vincentian Fathers, our parish continues to be a spiritual home for families, students, and professionals seeking Christ in the heart of Sydney’s north. For more than 80 years, generations have gathered here to celebrate Mass, receive the sacraments, and grow together in faith.

Our Catholic school, established in 1934, began under the care of the Sisters of Mercy, later supported by the Daughters of Charity, and is now led by dedicated lay teachers. Together with the parish, the school helps young people grow in knowledge, love, and faith.

About Our Heritage

After the Second World War, Italian families helped shape the life of St Anthony’s Parish, Marsfield by bringing with them deep traditions of faith and devotion. They established beloved celebrations such as the feasts of Our Lady of Grace and St Francesco di Paola, which remain central to our parish calendar today. These feasts were not simply social occasions, they were acts of thanksgiving, expressions of trust in God, and signs of the Virgin Mary and the saints’ loving intercession.

Over the years, the wider community has embraced these devotions, and they have become moments of public witness where prayer, music, and family come together. What began as the faith of migrant families has grown into a heritage shared by all. Today, these celebrations continue to unite generations, such as grandparents, parents, students, and children, reminding us that St Anthony’s Parish, Marsfield, is a place where faith is lived, family is strengthened, and culture is celebrated in the light of Christ.

About Our Place

Marsfield, once farmland on the traditional land of the Wallumedegal people, has changed greatly over the past century. In the years following the Second World War, it became home to returning servicemen, migrant families, and working households building new lives in Australia. Italian migrants, in particular, brought their strong faith and family traditions, leaving a lasting mark on both the suburb and St Anthony’s Parish.

Today, Marsfield and neighbouring Macquarie Park are vibrant centres of learning, health, and technology. Macquarie University draws thousands of students from Australia and around the world. Macquarie Hospital and research centres provide care and innovation in health. Macquarie Park’s global technology precinct now ranks as one of Australia’s leading business hubs, home to international firms and start-ups alike. Together, these institutions shape the rhythm of life in the area: students studying late into the night, healthcare workers serving the vulnerable, and professionals building new ideas for the future.

Amid this energy, St Anthony’s Parish, Marsfield, remains a place of welcome and prayer. For long-time families, international students, and new professionals, the parish offers stability, belonging, and fellowship in Christ. Here, generations gather: the elderly who built the suburb after the war, the middle-aged raising families, and young people searching for meaning. You may have searched or asked yourself if there was a “catholic chapel near me”. We are more than a catholic chapel near you, we are a community known for progress and diversity. St Anthony’s Parish, Marsfield, reminds us that faith is timeless and it is a living anchor that unites past and present, then and now, in God’s love.
