Faith and Reason Sydney
A Catholic Conversation for Those Seeking More
There is a quiet truth many people carry.
Life may be full. Work progresses. Responsibilities are met. Yet some questions remain. Steady. Persistent. Waiting to be faced.
Questions about suffering. About truth. About meaning. About God.
Faith and Reason Sydney is a space where these questions are not avoided, but welcomed.
Created for adults who want more than surface answers, this weekly gathering offers thoughtful conversation grounded in Scripture, philosophy, and the person of Jesus Christ. It reflects the Catholic understanding that faith and reason work together, helping us see reality more clearly and live with deeper purpose.
Why Faith and Reason Matter
The Catholic Church has always taught that faith and reason belong together.
As expressed in the Church’s teaching, faith and reason (Fides et Ratio) are like two wings that lift the human spirit toward truth. When both are engaged, understanding deepens, and life begins to make greater sense.
This means:
- Questions are not threats to faith
- Thinking deeply strengthens belief
- Seeking the truth is already a step toward God
Many adults recognise this desire. There is often a sense that faith should go deeper. That it should speak meaningfully into real life.
Faith and Reason Sydney begins in that desire.
What to Expect Each Week
Each session of Faith and Reason Sydney is simple, structured, and respectful of your time.
A Calm Beginning
Arrive quietly. There is no pressure and no expectation. Space is given to settle and reflect.
Opening Prayer for Faith and Reason Sydney
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Heavenly Father,
you have placed within every human heart
a desire to seek what is true,
to know what is good,
and to find what gives life meaning.
Send upon us now your Holy Spirit.
Strengthen our faith,
that we may trust in your divine wisdom.
Strengthen our reason,
that we may think clearly, seek honestly,
and recognise the truth that comes from you.
Give us the grace to use these two wings,
faith and reason,
so that our minds may rise to the contemplation of truth,
and our hearts may come to know and love you more deeply.
Lead us beyond opinion, beyond confusion, beyond fear.
Bring us to the fullness of truth,
and in that truth,
bring us closer to Christ your Son,
who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
A Real Question
Each week begins with a question rooted in real life:
- Why do we suffer
- What is truth
- What gives life meaning
- Who is Jesus Christ
Honest Conversation
A guided discussion allows participants to explore freely. No one is forced to speak. Every voice is respected.
Grounded Clarity
Each session concludes by anchoring the discussion in Christ and the teaching of the Church. Over time, many begin to see how faith and reason illuminate each other.
There is no performance. No shallow answers. Only a steady movement from question to truth.
Who Is This For
Faith and Reason Sydney is especially for:
- Catholics who have been away and are quietly searching
- Professionals who think deeply and want serious answers
- Those carrying stress, loss, or unresolved questions
- Anyone curious about faith and observing before committing
Many discover they are not alone in their questions.
And in that realisation, something begins to open.
Guided by a Member of the Parish
These sessions are facilitated by Crom Salvatera, a member of St Anthony’s Parish and a lay Catholic.
Crom brings experience in communication, philosophy, and human understanding, helping to guide each conversation with clarity and focus. His role is to facilitate a space where real questions can be explored honestly and where answers can be grounded in Christ and the wisdom of the Church.
